Full Tutorial 3/3: Jailbreaking an iTouch 2G with 2.2.1 Firmware and how to install software from Appulous

Jailbreaking / Untethering your iTouch offers a wide variety of freedoms with your iTouch. But screw that crap, you are probably here because you want free apps.
Regardless of what you want, here is a complete guide showing you how to do so starting from the initial jailbreaking to downloading the apps.
Note that doing this voids your warranty. Also note that Apple’s EULA prevents them from checking your iTouch, so there is no way they can know you are doing this.

- How will my iTouch function differently when I jailbreak my it?
Nothing will be different other than you will ha elevated privileges, meaning you can install 3rd party applications not supported by the Apple app store.
- Will I still be able to use the app store?
Yes, the app store still functions normally, you will still be bale to buy and download apps from there.
- Where do I go to download and try applications for free?
my favorite place to go is Appulous, but a number of sites exist that provide applications for iTouches
- Can i un-jailbreak my phone?
Yes, you will need an original firmware file of your iTouch.
- I tried downloading apps and installed them correctly but they aren’t showing up on my iTouch homepage / iTunes is telling me I don’t have the correct privileges to install the app on my iTouch

Installing apps on your iTouch 2G
I know of two methods of doing this.
- Using Installous / Appulous to install apps directly onto our iTouch from your iTouch
- Downloading apps from online on your computer and using iTunes to install them on your iTouch
Using Installous / Appulous to install apps directly onto our iTouch from your iTouch

From Installous, you can search for an app on Appulous alphabetically, by newst, by latest update, or with a search function.

To use the search function, tap the search button at the top right of the Installous app, type in the desired app name the press ‘Search’.

A list of relevant apps should load, look for the one you want to download and tap it to bring up it’s Appulous app page.

Scroll to the bottom and look for ‘Download’. Sometimes there are multiple versions of the app. Usually you want to go with the latest one. Tap the version you wish to download.

A list of available mirrors for download will load. Choose one under the category “iPod-friendly links”

Look for the download button and press it

An option to download or install the app will appear, choose install.

A download progress bar will appear.

after it is done downloading, an install log will pop up and show the progress of the installation

Once the installation is complete you can find it on your homepage.

Downloading apps from online on your computer and using iTunes to install them on your iTouch
First download the app and open it with iTunes.

The app will appear in the ‘Applications’ section of iTunes.

Plug your iTouch into your computer and hit the ‘Sync’ button on the Summary page of your iTouch in iTunes.

iTunes will begin installing the app on your iTouch and you are finished!
